Christmas Highlights

Madison is at such a great age for the family Christmas party!

The boy and his sweet wife.  Our extended family of brother, sister and families were all there for food, presents, holding the newest baby and celebrating that Grandpapa is better.

My all-time favorite of Maddie.  Don't let the sweet girl look fool you. She is tough with those boy cousins.

So glad that Grandpapa was feeling a little better.  He has 3 great-grandchildren now.

Cousins. They are both a little "interesting".

G&G with the newest family member, Micah.  Nothing like a new baby to hold at Christmas!

Gpapa led the music.  We always sing carols by the piano.  My mom, sister, sister-in-law and niece and I also sing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" in perfect harmony....well, close.  Always a sweet moment for me.

Landon gave Micah a chocolate kiss on the forehead. Ha (looks a little guilty to me)!

Community Christmas Celebration or, C3, as we affectionately call it. My boss created the program and our staff worked on it for 4 months.  We had a total attendance of around 2000. We pray that lives were changed and hearts touched through the many facets of the program.

115 in the choir during the weekend.  This event always really begins Christmas for me! The first night I was a little stressed hoping everyone would show up in the right places and at the right times. The second night was wonderful. I relaxed and enjoyed the evening. The children's choir,  20 banner carriers, a drama troupe, soloists, 2 dancers, a drum line, Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus all came through perfectly.  It was so much FUN!

We had an awesome Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus.  This was a sweet moment.

This sweet girl did a perfect narration of Luke 2...everyone's favorite part of the program.  Just like Linus on "Charlie Brown Christmas" except better!

The holidays are "No Time to Diet!" Look at the size of that fork, spoon, and bowl!

One of our local high schools helped us with the Angels song...beautiful! Notice the backdrop of the stable. I ordered it 50 feet wide instead of 25 feet...a big oops! My boss, after he got over the shock, used his imagination and we folded it in half and hung it over scaffolding.  The city of Bethlehem is in the background.

"Angels are Making Their Rounds"  Fear not, Zechariah, Joseph and Mary!

Beautiful dancer to "Be Born in Me"

They look like the real thing to me!

The Music staff (minus one who was needed elsewhere)

Micah! (And the Day After...)

This past Monday morning, November 19th, I arrived in my office around 8:30 after my early morning walk.  There were 11 missed calls. Hmm...strange.  Then the phone rang again and I heard Brad say "Woman, where have you been? I guess you don't want to participate in the birth of your grandson!"  Erin's water had just broken.  We were so happy...and so past ready to see that baby's face. He was, after all, 10 days late!!  Micah was born that evening after 9 hours of labor.  I will say again here...Erin is my hero! All are well and settling in at home to a new routine with a newborn.  I am very thankful that my daughter and son-in-law have always let me witness the births of my grandchildren.  God is amazing!!  I will never forget any moment of each birth.  They are all unique!

Madison wanted to show her doll to Micah.

We have THREE grandchildren now??!! Wow!

Micah was about 1 hour old in this pic.

Tres ninos! I love them so much.

Now let's talk about the next day.  I have babysat the big kids many times. But that is quite different than spending the night with them and waking up before daylight to those little voices and fixing breakfast that they hardly touch and trying to get a car seat in the car and getting to the hospital happy and in one piece and halfway clean for pictures.

After getting home and in the bed around midnight, I awoke around 6 a. m. to the sound of Landon talking to himself.  I thought....hurry, hurry...get in the shower before all Gehenna breaks loose! So after a 4 minute shower I got dressed just in time.  Both were out of sorts because of no mommy and daddy.  Didn't eat the pancakes I slaved over from the microwave.  Maddie wanted to see Mommy.  Landon wanted to see Daddy.  I got them dressed in the cute WHITE shirts that mommy had made them for this day.  Loaded up, got down to the car.  Got Maddie in her car seat.  Then I had to load Landon's car seat in my car.  Most people who know me know that I am "spatially challenged"....in other words anything that requires assembly is a huge problem for me.  I got the car seat in and Landon in it.  Whew. Wow, not so tough after all.  We took off and rounded the first corner out of their neighborhood.  I heard "UH OH" and there was Landon totally tipped over. Whoa!! I turned back around, pulled back into their driveway and called Erin and Brad and got instructions again.  Okay. Think I got it.  Got in the car.  Maddie said she had to potty.  Okay, pull back in and take her in to potty. Landon was 'hungy" so I grabbed cookies.  Back out to the car. Gave them the cookies.  Started to back out.  Looked back and there was smeared chocolate dangerously close to that white shirt that Landon had on.  Got out and took his shirt off and just let him wear his jacket.  Maddie, in the meantime, is coughing her head off and crying for mommy.  I tried to calm her as we finally left 45 minutes after we initially got in the car.

I stopped through McDonald's and got them both sweet tea.  Maddie kept coughing as we drove down the highway.  Then I heard... "Grandmommy, I thowed up"....yep...all over that beautiful WHITE big sister shirt and my car seat. Ugh.  I turned around in my seat and then realized what I was doing. Turned back around and narrowly avoided rear-ending the car in front of me. From that point on I just tried to ignore the "thow-up" and paid attention to my driving.  Half an hour later we pulled into the hospital parking lot and met Daddy. Whew!  Had to take Maddie in and wash her shirt down first before seeing the baby.  All's well that ends well. We had a calm visit and the children were fascinated with Micah and so sweet with him.  They fell asleep hard on the way back home and I had a peaceful drive.  Small blessings mean a lot!

Our family is "blessed beyond measure"...I like that phrase. It perfectly describes what I'm feeling this week. And how appropriate for Thanksgiving week!

Now let the Christmas season begin.  I think I'm ready...

My Beautiful "October Blue" Life

I had a perfect hour today.  I was walking on the trail in the cool autumn weather, my favorite color in the sky, just telling the Lord how gorgeous His world is...
Shimmering!
Peaceful path

Turning and Falling

Another week or so and we'll see peak color

My favorite October blue

There's a lot going on in my life right now but it's only to show me how much He loves me and that He's waiting patiently for me to accept my portion of His wisdom and strength. Among other things,  there's much JOY as I anticipate grandson Micah's arrival in a few weeks.  I'm thinking that baby will be sizable if my beautiful daughter's tummy is any indication. Ha!  Stay tuned!

Also, there is much concern as I daily (hourly) pray for my dad to be healed of lymphoma.  I feel only confidence that the healing will happen.  Our family is the object of prayers, cards, caring and interested questions, sweet folks always asking "How's your dad?"  And he is enduring...pain from a broken arm that will heal hopefully when his treatment is done, extreme tiredness from the chemotherapy, but I still see quite the sense of humor he's always had! I'm thankful for both my parents and their faithfulness to each other and Him.

More to come...

In the meantime, I will try to live each day prayerfully listening, counting all those blessings I have, and loving every minute I get to spend with these two cuties!

It's About Time!

Baby Micah is due in 5 weeks.
Dad is taking his 3rd chemotherapy treatment this week.
Work is extremely busy. Very long hours.
Walking the trail 4-5 times a week! I'm loving the solitude and exercise.
Life is good and the Lord is merciful and gives grace to me daily.
More to come...

Ups, Downs, and In Between

The last month since my last post has been full of mixed emotions. As the title says...ups, downs, and in between.  We now have cancer to deal with in our family as well as a new baby due in 12 weeks and just living our everyday lives in between it all.

My life and that of my family has been blessed for many years.  My brother and sister and I have parents who are a true GIFT from God.  We are all close.  We enjoy our weekly visits, special get-togethers for birthdays, festive times like Christmas and Thanksgiving, and, most of all, just doing life together at church, home, etc.  Mom and Dad are my inspiration that you CAN be married for 56 years and enjoy life together.  That the only way to do it is through your faith and trust in the Lord.  That the best way is to have respect for each other as well as love.

At the end of June, my mother developed atrial flutter. She was sent to the ER from the doctor's office and then was admitted to the hospital and the doctors did a cardiac ablation to resolve the problem.  All went well although it was a bit of a recovery for mom.  Around that same time, my dad had bumped his arm pretty hard into a door frame and it swelled and was very painful.  The x-ray showed it fractured but would heal on its own.  After time passed and things did not get better, he had an MRI and this showed a tumor in the arm.  Now the diagnosis is Lymphoma and he will start chemotherapy next week.  We will find out if it is elsewhere in the body next week also.  We are praying and our church family and friends are praying daily.  We feel so supported by them and our faith in the Lord and the knowledge that His plan is perfect.  May it all bring glory to Him.

On the really UP side is Micah.  Here's my third grandchild.  He is due in 12 weeks and what a JOY that day will be.  He's due during the presidential election week!  Maybe we'll have even more to celebrate then!
The boy looks somewhat like Landon.  I wonder if he will be a little Landon with red hair like Maddie! Fun!

With all this going on and my long workdays which are happy but stressful at times, I have enjoyed exercising. I never thought I'd say that but this trail makes all the difference.  It is 3 miles long, through woods, pastures, and country lanes.  I have seen rabbits, deer, frogs, squirrels, and even a snake. Yikes!  I see an old man on a cane every day and runners who sound and look like they are about to have a heart attack as they run up some of the steep hills.  I stick to walking but I am feeling better and at least not gaining weight.  Not losing either but at least I'm happy doing the exercise!  Here are some beautiful scenes that I see four times a week.

I'm already planning to take lots more pics when the leaves start to change!  That will be a beautiful sight.

Looking forward to what the future holds...it is ultimately in His hands.  We pray for healing and for a safely-delivered new life!

My Church is Patriotic!

My church has a long history and reputation.  It is Bible-believing (yes, literally), Bible-preaching (thank you, Dr. Easley) quite invested in world missions, very caring for each other in the body of the membership, and, PATRIOTIC!! Our church loves veterans, military, and the red, white and blue.  We had our usual Community God & Country Celebration on July 1 in the morning service. It was dedicated to honoring our military, veterans, and the traditions, history and spiritual legacy of the people of the United States. There was fun music like Swing Down Chariot and Swing Low and armed forces theme songs and beautiful Christian hymns such as How Great Thou Art.  We sang Heal Our Land...a song that appeals to us all to not only get our own hearts and souls right with God but to pray for our nation also. Such a huge task...and so important in this election year.  We had old-fashioned flag-waving and confetti cannons and and decorative bunting and a gigantic flag as the centerpiece of it all. Everyone had a great time!  Our very gifted minister of music, Joe Buckner, puts it all together each year and leads with beautiful solos and narration.  Our media team, directed by Chris Nall, and our orchestra, directed by Hugh Norman, do an amazing job and make us sound and look good!  Here are some photos of the day:
